Univa Grid Engine and Remote Exploit Vulnerability in BASH

on Thu, 09/25/2014 - 18:31
On 9/24/2014 a severe bash shell vulnerability (CVE-2014-6271) was disclosed which affects the implementation of the GNU Bash 4.3 shell on Linux and other operating systems:
In brief, the vulnerability can be exploited by local or remote users who can directly or indirectly trigger bash scripts scripts running in the context of other users. This can be e.g. web servers which execute CGI scripts.
To test whether the installed Bash shells are vulnerable users can execute the following command:

OGF42 DRMAA2 Code Camp: Using the new API for Job Workflow, Job Management, and Cluster Monitoring in Univa Grid Engine

on Mon, 09/22/2014 - 08:16

The Open Grid Forum 42 was happening two weeks ago at the Imperial College of London. Since we are strong supporter of open standards around HPC clusters we participated with a DRMAA2 Code Camp as part of the DRMAA2 specification sessions. The goal from this session was to provide interested developers a Univa Grid Engine 8.2 demo cluster on their laptop in order to have an easy way of gaining experience with the new DRMAA2 C API.

If you want to learn about how to setup an Univa Grid Engine cluster (ready for DRMAA2 programming) in a few easy steps, then download the presentation here.
